A mixture of 5-phenyl-3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-one (0.4 g, 1.29 mmol) and NBS (0.459 g, 2.58 mmol) in DMF (5 ml) was heated at 80° C. for 2 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (40 ml) and extracted with DCM (3×25 ml). The combined organic phases were washed with water (3×45 ml) and brine (30 ml), dried and concentrated to give the title compound (0.46 g, 91%). LCMS RT=1.46 min, M+H+=390.9/392.9.
