To a solution of tert-butyl N-[(1S,2S)-2-{[3-methyl-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-yl]amino}cyclopentyl]carbamate (580 mg, 1.614 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (5 ml) was added HCl in 1,4-dioxane (4M, 4 ml, 16.00 mmol). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and azeotropically distilled with toluene to afford the title compound.
