N-(2-chloroethyl)benzamide (4.12 g, 22.44 mmol) and phosphorous pentachloride (7.01 g, 33.7 mmol) were refluxed in m-xylene under nitrogen for 2 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature. To the reaction was then added 2,4-diisopropyldibenzo[b,d]furan-3-amine (6 g, 22.44 mmol). The reaction was refluxed for 16 h. After cooled to room temperature, the precipitate was collected by filtration, and washed thoroughly with toluene and hexanes. Sodium hydroxide solution was added to the solid and then ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated and dried over MgSO4. The solvent was evaporated. 7.4 g (83% yield) of product was obtained.
