A solution of tert-butyl 3-(3-(methoxycarbonyl)benzyl)-4-oxo-1-phenyl-1,3,8-triazaspiro[4.5]decane-8-carboxylate (1.2 g, 2.5 mmol, 1 equiv) in 4M hydrogen chloride solution in dioxane was stirred at ambient temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated and dried in vacuo to afford the hydrogen chloride salt of the title compound as a white powder (0.95 g, quant.); MS for C22H25N3O3 m/z 379.19 (M+H)+.
