Procedure

Methoxyamine hydrochloride (0.833 g, 9.97 mmol) was added portionwise to 4-chloro-4′-fluorobutyrophenone (2.00 g, 9.97 mmol) in pyridine (10 mL) and the mixture stirred at room temperature overnight and evaporated under vacuum. The residue was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with 2N aqueous hydrochloric acid and brine, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give product as an oil (2.29 g, quant.); MS for C11H13ClFNO m/z 230 (M+H)+.
