Procedure
To a solution of sodium nitrate (30 mg, 0.40 mmol) in trifluoroacetic acid (5 mL) was added bromo azide 13 (100 mg, 0.32 mmol). The resulting solution was stirred at 25° C. for 30 min and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude product was then dissolved in EtOAc (50 mL) and the organic portion washed sequentially with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate (10 mL), NaOH (1 M solution, 10 mL), and water (10 mL), dried with anhydrous Na2SO4, and then concentrated under reduced pressure. It was purified by column chromatography with petroleum ether/EtOAc (6:4 v/v) to give nitro compound 14 (108 mg) as a thick liquid.
