Procedure

2.0 g 4-Acetylpyridine were dissolved in 10 ml acetonitrile and 2.0 g dimethyl sulfate were added. After refluxing for 5 h, the solution was added dropwise to 40 ml ethyl acetate and the precipitate was filtered, washed with ethyl acetate and dried in vacuo.
