To a suspension of 5-((6-phenylbenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)methyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-ol (25 mg, 0.081 mmol) in acetic acid (1 mL) (prepared according to a similar procedure described for Compound 51a) was added 30% hydrogen peroxide in water (0.17 mL, 1.6 mmol) and the reaction mixture heated at 50° C. for 16 h. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool to rt then diluted with water and filtered. The solid was washed with water and rinsed with ether, then dried under vacuum to afford Compound 88a (21 mg, 80% yield) as a yellow solid. LCMS=0.96 min using analytical method (M), 324.1 (M+H). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.64 (d, J=1.5 Hz, 1H), 8.40 (d, J=8.5 Hz, 1H), 8.02 (dd, J=8.5, 1.8 Hz, 1H), 7.89-7.79 (m, 2H), 7.63-7.50 (m, 2H), 7.50-7.41 (m, 1H), 5.76 (s, 1H).
