A mixture of 3.55 g of 3-nitro-5-(octadecyloxy)benzoic acid methyl ester and 0.75 g of 10% palladium on carbon in 100 ml of THF was shaken under aninitial hydrogen pressure of 52 psi until uptake ceased after 1.5 hours. The catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated at reduced pressure to give 3.28 g of pure 3-amino-5-(octadecyloxy)benzoicacid methyl ester.
