Procedure

Ethyl 4-chloro-3-oxo-2-n-hexyloxyiminovalerate (255.0 g.), 2-mercaptoethanol (86.1 g.), triethylamine (11.13 g.) and chloroform (2.8 l.) were treated in a similar manner to that of Example I-(i) and stirred at room temperature for 3.5 hours. The resultant solution was treated in a similar manner to that of Example I-(i) to give ethyl 4-(2-hydroxyethylthio)-3-oxo-2-n-hexyloxyiminovalerate (290.5 g.).
