7-(3-Chloropropyl)-theophylline (1 mole) and 1-(3-phenylthiopropyl)-piperazine are refluxed for 24 hours in a 50% aqueous-alcoholic solution. On completion of the reaction, sodium hydroxide (1 mole) is then added. The mixture is extracted with methylene chloride and washed with water, after which the solvent is evaporated off and the residue is recrystallized from ethanol.
