Conditions
- Temperature
- -78 °C
Procedure
The reaction solution was cooled to -78° C., added with a dry ether (5 ml) solution of benzylideneacetone (439 mg, 3 mmol) and reacted under stirring at the same temperature for 3 hours. After completion of the reaction, 1 N hydrochloric acid (42 ml) was added to separate the ether layer and the ether layer was washed with 1% hydrochloric acid (20 ml×2) and a saturated saline solution (20 ml×3), dried with anydrous magnesium sulfate and filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain (S)(-)-benzylideneisopropanol. Yield: 435 mg (98%), [α]D20 =24.2° (C=5.16, CHCl3), optical purity: 98%.
