Reaction Steps
A solution of 3.2 g of methyl 2-[[1-(6,7-dihydro-4-methoxy-5H-cyclopentapyrimidin-2-ylamino)-1-(ethylthio)methylene]aminosulfonyl]benzoate in 75 ml of acetone is treated with 3.0 g of mercuric oxide and stirred at room temperature for 3 days. The mercury salts are removed by filtration and the solvent is evaporated to yield the solid product.
