Procedure

A solution of (R)-4-methyl-6-trifluoromethoxy-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrazino[1,2-a]indol-1-one (800 mg, 2.81 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (4 ml.) was added to a suspension of lithium aluminium hydride (420 mg, 11.1 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (4 mL) and the resulting mixture was heated to reflux for 90 min. After cooling the reaction mixture was slowly added to a cooled saturated aqueous sodium potassium tartrate solution. The resulting suspension was filtered on dicalite and the organics extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The combined organic phases were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), and evaporated. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (n-hexane/ethyl acetate to ethyl acetate/methanol gradient) to yield the title compound as a light yellow solid (385 mg, 51%). Mp: 58-60° C.; EI-MS: m/e=270.1 (M+).
