Sulfuric Acid → Phosphoric Acid
Reaction equation
[P:1]([OH:5])([O-:4])([O-:3])=[O:2].[Ca+2:6].[S:7](=[O:11])(=[O:10])([OH:9])[OH:8]>>[S:7]([O-:11])([O-:10])(=[O:9])=[O:8].[Ca+2:6].[P:1](=[O:2])([OH:5])([OH:4])[OH:3]Participants

Procedure
The clarified solution is transferred to a vessel wherein the monocalcium phosphate is reacted with sulfuric acid to form calcium sulfate crystals and additional phosphoric acid. Preferably, the crystals are the gypsum form of calcium sulfate [CaSO4.2H2 ], however, they can alternately be of the hemi-hydrate [CaSO4.1/2H2O] form. The calcium sulfate crystals are removed from the phosphoric acid solution and a portion of the acid solution is recycled to the last coarse solids reaction zone of the process. The remainder of the phosphoric acid solution is removed as product from the process.
