| Reactant | Sulfuric Acid | HCID 1118 | — |
| Reactant | Calcium hydrogen phosphate | HCID 24441 | — |
| Product | Phosphoric Acid | HCID 1004 | — |
| Product | Calcium Sulfate | HCID 24497 | — |
Reaction Steps
The clarified solution is transferred to a vessel wherein the monocalcium phosphate is reacted with sulfuric acid to form calcium sulfate crystals and additional phosphoric acid. Preferably, the crystals are the gypsum form of calcium sulfate [CaSO4.2H2 ], however, they can alternately be of the hemi-hydrate [CaSO4.1/2H2O] form. The calcium sulfate crystals are removed from the phosphoric acid solution and a portion of the acid solution is recycled to the last coarse solids reaction zone of the process. The remainder of the phosphoric acid solution is removed as product from the process.
