VD 1827 hydrochloride (6.3 g, 10 mmole) was dissolved in a mixture of water (40 ml) and acetone (10 ml). A solution of sodium 4-toluenesulfonate (1.94 g, 10 mmole in water (10 ml) was added dropwise with stirring. After stirring for 1 hour at room temperature and 2 hours at 5° C., the crystalline precipitate was collected, washed with water (2×10 ml) and dried in vacuo to yield the title compound as colourless crystals with melting point 141°-148° C. dec.
