Reaction Steps

The product of Stage (i) (0.18 g) dissolved in absolute ethanol (25 ml) was hydrogenated at room temperature and pressure over 10% palladium oxide on charcoal. After the uptake of hydrogen had ceased the catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate reduced to dryness. The residue was recrystallised from a mixture of ethanol and ethyl acetate to give the title compound as a powder (0.1 g), m.p. 244°-246°.
