A solution of 5-amino-2-methylthio-4-(3-aminophenyl)-quinazoline-6-carboxylate (example 27f, 658 mg) in 1,4-dioxane was treated with an aqueous solution of KOH (2 M, 4.2 ml) at 70° C. for 18 h. After the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, it was acidified to pH 1 with 4 N HCl. The mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×). The combined organic layers were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude title compound.
