Procedure
A suspension of diethyl 2-(amino-[6-amino-2-methylthio-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-pyrimidin-5-yl]-methylene)-malonate (example 30b, 1.34 g) in diphenyl ether (30 ml) was heated under a stream of nitrogen to 240° C. for 2 h. After the mixture was cooled to room temperature, heptane was added (200 ml) and the solids were collected by filtration. The title compound was purified by chromatography on silica gel using CH2Cl2/acetone=1/0 to 4/1 (v/v) as eluent.
