Reaction Steps

65 ml of ether solution containing 7.77 g of 4-dimethylamino-4-methoxycarbonyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzothiophene obtained in Step 2 was added to an ice-cooled suspension of aluminum lithium hydride (1.23 g) in ether, then stirred for 20 minutes at room temperature. The reaction mixture was added with 5% NaOH solution, filtrated to remove the insoluble matters, followed by drying the organic phase.
