Procedure

A 3N solution of HCl in diethyl ether (3 ml) was added at room temperature to a mixture of N-tertbutoxycarbonyl-α-(trimethylsilyl)benzeneethanamine (0.150 g, 0.51 mmol) in diethyl ether (3 ml). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 48 hours. The resulting solid was filtered off and dried, in vacuo, to yield 0.106 g of the expected α-(trimethylsilyl)-benzeneethanamine hydrochloride, m.p. 193° C.
