Procedure
A mixture of methyl 3-bromo-4-hydroxybenzoate (2.50 g, 10.8 mmol) and CuCN (1.10 g, 12.3 mmol) in NMP (10 mL) was stirred at 200° C. under N2 atmosphere for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered. The filtrate was diluted in ethyl acetate (100 mL) and washed with water (50 mL×3) and brine (50 mL), then dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (PE/EtOAc=8/1).
