To a stirred solution of 2,4-difluoro-3-[[2-fluoro-3-(3-fluorophenyl)-5-methoxy-phenyl]methylamino]phenol (180 mg, 0.48 mmol, 1.0 eq) in DMF (4 mL) was added Cs2CO3 (233 mg, 0.72 mmol, 1.5 eq). The resulting mixture was stirred for 40 min at room temperature then ethyl bromoacetate (96 mg, 0.57 mmol, 1.2 eq) was added. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h then water added and the aqueous layer extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The crude residue was purified by chromatography (EtOAc:petroleum ether, 0:1 to 1:10) to give the title compound as an oil (150 mg, 68%).
