To a solution of 3-[[2-fluoro-5-(3-fluorophenyl)-3-methyl-phenyl]methylamino]-2,4-dimethyl-phenol (106 mg, 0.30 mmol, 1.0 eq) in DMF (6 mL) was added Cs2CO3 (147 mg, 0.45 mmol, 1.5 eq) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 30 min, then isopropyl bromoacetate (65 mg, 0.136 mmol, 1.2 eq) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. Water was added and the aqueous layer extracted with EtOAc. The organic extract was washed with water and brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (petroleum ether:EtOAc, 50:1 to 40:1) to give the title compound as a colorless oil (90 mg, 66%).
