Procedure
A 50-mL single-neck round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stirrer was purged with nitrogen and charged with 122c (600 mg, 1.23 mmol), acetic acid (10 mL) and THF (5 ml). Zinc dust (1.56 g, 20.5 mmol) was added in portions. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. After this time, the reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was purified by flash chromatography to afford a 81% (460 mg) yield of 122d as a yellow oil: 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.85 (d, 1H, J=8.0 Hz), 7.58 (d, 1H, J=8.0 Hz), 7.52 (s, 1H), 7.45 (t, 1H, J=8.0 Hz), 7.28 (d, 2H, J=8.0 Hz), 6.74 (d, 1H, J=2.0 Hz), 6.57 (d, 1H, J=2.0 Hz), 5.08 (s, 2H), 4.78 (s, 2H), 4.37 (s, 2H), 3.60 (s, 3H), 1.85 (s, 3H), 1.40 (s, 9H); MS (ESI+) m/z 460.3 (M+H).
