HCl (gas) was transferred into a solution of tert-butyl 4-(6-chloro quinolin-2-yl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (1.6 g, 4.6 mmol) in methanol (40 ml) at room temperature with stirring for 1 hour and then concentrated under vacuum to afford N-(2-aminoethyl)-6-chloro-N-(2-chloroethyl)quinolin-2-amine as a white solid (1.1 g, 84%).
