Procedure
8-Chloro-2-methyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole (220 mg, 1 mmol) was dissolved in 2 mL NMP and to this was added KOH (560 mg, 10 mmol) followed by 2-bromo-1-(4-chloro-phenyl)-ethanone (233 mg, 1 mmol) The reaction was kept overnight at RT. Water was added and the compound extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was washed with water, concentrated and purified by column chromatography using silica gel (#100-200 mesh) using 0-3% MeOH:DCM as eluent. The compound was further purified by reverse phase chromatography. 1HNMR (CD3OD, TFA salt) d (ppm): 8.10 (m, 2H), 7.60 (d, 2H), 7.50 (s, 1H), 7.30 (d, 1H), 7.10 (m, 1H), 5.80 (m, 2H), 4.70 (m, 1H), 4.40 (m, 1H), 3.80 (m, 1H), 3.60 (m, 1H), 3.05 (s, 5H).
