Procedure
1-(6-Fluoro-4-methyl-2-pyridyl)piperazine hydrochloride (80 mg, 0.34 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous ethanol (1.5 ml), sodium (50 mg, 1.96 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred for five minutes at room temperature and then at 140° C. for one hour under microwave heating in a closed vial. The mixture was filtered through kieselguhr, the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was treated with acetonitrile and then ethylacetate. The liquids were separated from solids by centrifugation and decanting and the combined supernatants were concentrated under reduced pressure to give 85 mg of a solid (quantitative). MS (multi-mode) m/z=222.2 [M+1]+.
