Procedure

To a stirred solution of 1-methyl-cyclobutylamine hydrochloride (0.100 g, 0.8 mmol) in pyridine (1 mL) was added methanesulfonyl chloride (0.095 mL, 1.2 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 hrs. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with 2 N aqueous hydrochloric acid, saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, saturated aqueous sodium chloride, dried (anhydrous sodium sulfate), filtered, and concentrated to afford the product as a brown oil (0.090 g, 67%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 4.49 (br s, 1H), 3.03 (s, 3H), 2.40-2.25 (m, 2H), 2.12-2.00 (m, 2H), 1.95-1.75 (m, 2H), 1.58 (s, 3H).

Workup

  1. washwashed with 2 N aqueous hydrochloric acid, saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, saturated aqueous sodium chloride
  2. dry with materialdried (anhydrous sodium sulfate)
  3. filtrationfiltered
  4. concentrationconcentrated
