Procedure

A solution of hydrogen chloride in 1,4-dioxane (1.6 ml, 52.7 mmol) was added to a solution of ethyl 2-((2-((tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino)ethyl)amino)-2-methylpropanoate (intermediate 298, 1.45 g, 5.29 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (9 ml) at room temperature. After stirring 1 day additional hydrogen chloride in 1,4-dioxane was added (5 ml). After a further 1 day the reaction mixture was evaporated to give the title compound as an off-white solid.
