Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | 3-Chlorophenylacetic acid | HCID 15879 | — |
| Reactant | Thionyl Chloride | HCID 24386 | — |
| Product | 2-(3-chlorophenyl)acetyl Chloride | HCID 10655249 | — |
Reaction Steps
To 3-chlorophenylacetic acid (51 g) was added thionyl chloride (100 ml) and N,N-dimethylforraamide (50 μl). After stirring at room temperature for 18 hours, the thionyl chloride was evaporated at reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in toluene (60 ml) and again evaporated at reduced pressure to give 3-chlorophenylacetylchloride.
