Tert-butyl (1R,5S)-3-(5,6-dichloropyridin-3-yl)-3,6-diazabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane-6-carboxylate (642 mg) in 1-propanol (8 mL) was treated with benzenesulfonic acid (516 mg) and heated at 75° C. with stirring for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, filtered, and the wetcake was dried in a vacuum oven at 50° C. to provide 292 mg of the title compound. 1H NMR (DMSO, 400 MHZ) δ 2.99 (dd, J=10, 6 Hz, 1H), 3.09 (dd, J=12, 5 Hz, 1 Hz), 3.39 (m, 1H), 3.56 (m, 1H), 3.89 (d, J=11 Hz, 1H), 4.05-4.11 (m, 1H), 4.94 (m, 1H), 7.29 (m, 3H), 7.55 (d, J=3 Hz, 1H), 7.58 (m, 2H), 7.97 (d, J=3 Hz, 1H), 8.80 (br, 1H).
