4-aminobenzoic acid ethyl ester (20 g, 0.121 mol), nitric acid (7.26 g, 0.121 mol), cyanamide (50%, 14 ml 0.182 mol) were mixed under reflux with ethanol (50 ml). After 24 hr, the mixture was cooled to RT, and then washed with ethanol to give the titled compound as crystalline solid.
