Procedure
The solution of 850 mg of 3′-nitro-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-[1,2′]bipyridinyl-4-carboxylic acid in 40 ml of ethyl acetate was admixed with 2.3 g of tin(II) chloride and stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The mixture was then extracted with 50 ml of water, the aqueous phase was adjusted to pH=6 using sodium dihydrogenphosphate and the product was extracted with ethyl acetate. After drying the organic phase over sodium sulfate, it was concentrated under reduced pressure.
