1.77 g (4.8 mmol) of tert-butyl 3-(2-chloro-6,7-dihydrothieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-ylamino)piperidin-1-carboxylate (V) is placed in 21.5 mL of a 4% hydrochloric acid solution in dioxane, and methanol is added. The solution is stirred for 0.5 hours at ambient temperature, whereupon a precipitate is formed. This is suction filtered, washed with diethyl ether, and dried. 1.33 g of product (VI) (91%) is obtained.
