A mixture of intermediate 15 (0.0224 mol) and sodium azide (0.067 mol) in DMF (120 ml) was stirred at 90° C. for 2 hours, brought to room temperature, poured out into ice water and stirred. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and taken up in DCM. The organic layer was washed with water, separated, dried (MgSO4), filtered, and the solvent was evaporated. The residue was purified by column chromatography over silica gel (15-40 μm) (eluent: toluene/iPrOH/NH4OH 90/10/1). The pure fractions were collected and the solvent was evaporated, yielding 9 g (80%) of 5-(3-chlorophenyl)-α-(4-methoxyphenyl)-α-(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)-tetrazolo[1,5-a]quinazoline-7-methanol (intermediate 16), mp 200° C.
