To a solution of 1.45 g of the preceding isoxazolo-pyrido-benzoxazine derivative (9) (R8 =CH3) in 30 ml pyridine is added in 2.5 ml N-methylpiperazine. It is then heated under nitrogen atmosphere at 50° C. for 24 hours. The mixture is evaporated to dryness and is then boiled in ethanol for 5 minutes and the mixture is filtered and washed with water yielding the 1-methyl-4-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-5-fluoro-1,2,8,9-tetrahydro-7H-isoxazolo[4',5':5,6]pyrido[1,2,3-de][1,4]benzoxazine-7,8-dione (I) ##STR15## R=CH3).
