Procedure
A solution of 12.3 g of N'-cyano-N-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-napthyl)-S-methylisothiourea and 16 ml of n-propylamine in 100 ml of acetonitrile was heated at reflux with stirring for 20 hours. The reaction mixture was then allowed to stand in a refrigerator to give 8.63 g of N"-cyano-N-n-propyl-N'-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthyl)guanidine as a white, crystalline solid, mp 130.5°-131.5° C. A further quantity of the product was obtained by the concentration and subsequent cooling of the mother liquor.
