TEA (0.556 mL, 3.99 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-(6-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-2-methyl-pyridin-3-ylmethyl)-acrylic acid ethyl ester (1.23 g, 3.84 mmol) in thioacetic acid (10 mL) at 0 ° C. under argon. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 64 h. EtOAc was added and the solution was washed with Na2CO3 and brine, dried and concentrated under reduced pressure. Flash chromatography (toluene/EtOAc, 5:1→1:1) gave 2-acetylsulfanylmethyl-3-(6-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-2-methyl-pyridin-3-yl)-propionic acid ethyl ester (1.33 g, 87%).
