A solution of 1-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine (Example 2, 677.7 mg, 0.50 mmol), 4-fluorobenzaldehyde (0.13 mL, 0.60 mmol), acetic acid (0.03 mL, 0.60 mmol), and NaBH(OAc)3 (148.4 mg, 0.70 mmol) in methylene chloride (15 mL) was stirred at rt for 24 h. Sodium hydroxide (1N) was added, and the solution was extracted with diethyl ether (3×30 mL). The combined ether layers were dried (sodium sulfate), filtered, and evaporated. The residue was purified by silica gel column, eluting with 3:1 hexanes:ethyl acetate. The product was isolated as a white solid (218.1 mg, 97%). LC-MS m/z (MH+) 447, retention time 2.65 min (method 1).
