Procedure
A solution of (2R)-7-(2-acetoxy-3-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)propoxy)-6-methoxy-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-4-one (556 mg, 1.54 mmol) in thionyl chloride (6 ml) containing DMF (3 drops) was heated at 80° C. for 4 hours. The volatiles were removed under vacuum. The residue was dissolved in methylene chloride and the organic layer was washed with aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate, brine, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give (2R)-7-(2-acetoxy-3-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)propoxy)-4-chloro-6-methoxyquinazoline (530 mg, 90%).
