2-Fluoro-5-[2-(2-thienyl)]ethoxybenzyl alcohol was prepared from 2-thiophene-ethanol (0.5 g) and 2-fluoro-5-hydroxybenzyl alcohol according to the procedure described in Example 152 to give the product as a clear oil (0.12 g); δH (400 MHz, CDCl3) 7.16 (1H, dd, J 5, 1.5 Hz), 6.98–6.92 (3H, m), 6.91 (1H, m), 6.78 (1H, dt, J 9, 3.5 Hz), 4.70 (2H, d, J 6 Hz), 4.15 (2H, t, J 6.5 Hz) and 3.28 (2H, dt, J 6.5, 1 Hz); HPLC (XTERRA, 50/80%, 220 nm) 97% (3.49 min).
