The compound (2.00 g) prepared in step (b) was dissolved in a mixed solvent composed of tetrahydrofuran (20 ml) and methanol (10 ml), and a 1 mol/l aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (10 ml) was added to the solution. The mixture was then stirred at 65° C. for one hr. The solvent was removed from the reaction solution by distillation under the reduced pressure. Water (30 ml) was then added to the residue, and the mixture was adjusted to pH 4 by the addition of 1 mol/l hydrochloric acid. The resultant precipitate was collected by filtration, and was then dried to give 1.60 g (85.6%) of 3-[4-(3,3-diphenyl-1-propyl)piperazin-1-yl]benzoic acid.
