To an ethanol (15 ml) solution of 4-[4-(2-methyl-benzyloxy)-benzenesulfonyl]-2-methyl-3-(4-methyl-2,6,7-trioxa-bicyclo[2.2.2]oct-1-yl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid methylamide (1.9 g, 3.48 mmol) was added 10% palladium hydroxide on carbon (370 mg). The mixture was shaken under about 20 psi hydrogen gas for about 1.5 hours. The resulting mixture was filtered through Celite® and concentrated in vacuo to give 1.55 g of the title compound (compound of formula XLV).
