Procedure
To N-benzyl-5-(4-methoxybenzyl)-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,2,5,6,8-pentaazaacenaphthylen-7-amine from step-2 was added neat trifluoroacetic acid(1 mL). The reaction mixture was heated at 65° C. for 4-16 h. The reaction mixture was evaporated and the crude reside was dissolved into DMSO. The crude product in DMSO was purified using reverse phase column chromatography using a Maccel AQ C18 column and a gradient of 1-95% ACN/water containing 0.05% trifluoroacetic acid, to yield the desired N-benzyl-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,2,5,6,8-pentaazaacenaphthylen-7-amine in acceptable purities by LC/MS. LC-Mass: m/e 387 (M+1).
