Procedure
Sodium hydroxide (7.05 mL, 12.5 M, 88 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of methyl tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-carboxylate (2.54 g, 17.6 mmol) in a mix of methanol (30 mL) and THF (30 mL) at 25° C. The reaction was stirred over the weekend. The THF/MeOH was then evaporated and the crude was washed with Et2O (2×). The aqueous layer was acidified and extracted with EtOAc (2×); the organics were dried over Na2SO4, filtered and the solvent was evaporated to give the title compound (D8) (1.94 g, 76%) as a white solid.
