Procedure
To a solution of N-(5-((3R)-5-oxopyrrolidin-3-yl)-2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (8.7 g, 24.7 mmol) in 48 mL of ethanol was added 9 mL of 4N NaOH aqueous solution. The mixture was then heated to 50° C. for 3 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (100 mL) and water (50 mL). The layers were separated. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo to provide the title compound (3.5 g, 57% yield). MS (ESI) m/z 256.03 (M+H)+.
