Procedure
To a solution of 3,3-dimethyl-2-(3-methylamino-phenyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinoline-6-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (338 mg, 1 mmol) in dichloromethane (5 mL) and pyridine (0.5 mL, 6 mmol) was added a solution of dimethylcarbamyl chloride (0.1 mL, 1.1 mmol) in dichloromethane (2 mL) dropwise at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at 25° C. for 12 h. Then the reaction mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (2×50 mL), washed with water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to afford 3,3-dimethyl-2-[3-(trimethyl-ureido)-phenyl]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinoline-6-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (409 mg, 100%) as a brown oil which was used for next step without further purification: LC/MS m/e calcd for C24H31N3O3 (M+H)+: 410.53, observed: 410.1.
