Procedure

160 mmol (13.9 g) penten-4-ol and 50 ml chloroform were introduced into a flask and cooled to 0° C. 160 mmol (36.8 g) bromoisobutyryl bromide in 20 ml chloroform were introduced slowly with cooling and the resulting solution was stirred for 4 h at room temperature. The reaction solution was washed three times with water, dried over MgSO4 and then concentrated by evaporation. The product was distilled in a high vacuum. Boiling point at 3.3×102 mbar: 50° C. Yield: 34.79 g (148 mmol; 92.5%)
